The world's largest bilateral trade agreement


The EPA comes into force today after four years of talks that concluded in 2017. It effectively removes the vast majority of tariffs (over 95%) between the EU and Japan, making this the world’s largest bilateral trade agreement. European exporters are expected to save around €1bn in duties each year but the non-tariff impact of reduced regulatory barriers could mean the level of trade increases far beyond those figures.
